AIU Participates in the FREE Project Conference and Closing Ceremony in Jordan
The Arab International University participated in the closing conference of the Female Academic Role Model Empowerment, Equality and Sustainability at Universities in Mediterranean Region: towards 2030 Agenda - FREE, which was hosted by Princess Sumaya University for Technology and the University of Petra in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Under the patronage of HE Dr. Haifa Al-Najjar, Minister of Culture of Jordan, the closing conference was opened in the presence of Arab and European academics, heads of Arab and international universities, and representatives of partner universities in the project. An academic delegation headed by Dr. Ahmad Bassel Alkhechi Vice President for Scientific Affairs attended the conference.
At the conference opening, Dr. Serene Al-Dalati, the coordinator of the project FREE, presented a case study on Prof. Dr. Wafika Zarzour, the founding dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Arab International University, entitled “Empowering academic women as role models in the higher education sector in Syria”, with the participation of Prof. Zarzour, and Ms. Azza Kaddoura, lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Dr. Dalati delivered several interactive sessions in the framework of introducing the project's achievements, especially with regard to the Center for Equality and Sustainability at the Arab International University and the centers of partner universities.
Mr. Adib Ghazi, Director of the International Relations at the AIU, delivered a presentation at the conference opening entitled: Community Participation and Building Partnerships between Universities and the NGOs Sector in Syria. At the conference closing events, souvenirs were presented to the universities delegations.
It is worth mentioning that FREE is an Erasmus + project in the scope of capacity building in Higher Education, funded by the EU.
